Meet the Gender-Affirming Menopause Care Faculty

Learn Gender-Affirming Menopause Care from its founder

Lasara Firefox Allen, MSW, created the Gender-Affirming Menopause Care (GAMC) certification course. They are the author, educator, and field-builder who put this care on the map. Today, physicians, nurse practitioners, and researchers who trained with Lasara teach alongside them. Their presence answers the question “does this hold up in practice?” It does.

Lasara Firefox Allen, MSW

Lead Faculty & Founder of the Field

Lasara Firefox Allen, MSW

they/them · Creator of the Gender-Affirming Menopause Care Certification

Gender-affirming menopause care existed as lived experience, anecdotal evidence, and scattered clinical instinct long before it had a name. Lasara gave it a framework. Then they built the infrastructure a field needs: the curriculum, the certification, the peer-reviewed best practices, and the book. Lasara is a trans, genderqueer author, IAOTH-accredited menopause educator, and certified menopause doula and coach. They are the leading expert on menopause in trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive bodies. In practice, they are the person clinicians turn to when standard training runs out.

Lasara wrote the field’s foundational text, Genderqueer Menopause (North Atlantic Books, 2026). It is an Amazon #1 Bestseller in Gender Studies, #3 in Menopause, and an Independent Press Top 40 Nonfiction List title. With Dr. Kristin Gianelis, DNP, they co-authored the first peer-reviewed best-practices article on gender-affirming menopause care in the Clinical Journal for Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health. Their second menopause title, Menopause Reclaimed, is forthcoming from Llewellyn in 2027. They have presented this work at WPATH, GLMA, NPWH, and Creating Change. And because the framework is theirs, they design and facilitate every GAMC cohort from the first session to the last.

The clinicians and researchers who trained with Lasara, now teaching alongside them

A physician, a doctor of nursing practice, and a PhD researcher each completed GAMC certification. Each took the framework into their own practice and scholarship. Now they return to teach from what they have seen work. As a result, participants learn the model from its founder and its application from the clinicians already using it.

GAMC Certified · Spring 2026 Cohort

Sarah is a former tenured professor and published scholar whose work centers the frequently ignored intersection of neurodivergence, hormones, burnout, accessibility, and systemic inequity for AFAB and gender-expansive people in peri/menopause. Sarah L. Glasco, PhD (she/her) is a late-diagnosed dyslexic ADHD/OCD writer, hypermobile human, IAOTH-certified gender-affirming menopause care consultant, neurodiversity activist, and producer, editor, and co-host of the ADHD Peri Punks Podcast. She currently leads clinician outreach for the NeuroDiversion Event and spends a significant amount of time trying to drag conversations about neurodivergence, hormones, accessibility, and healthcare equity out of the dark ages.

A former tenured college professor and published scholar who escaped academia with only moderate psychological damage, Sarah is also a classically trained cellist, multi-instrumentalist rock musician, indie press boss and mom to two grown neurodivergent kids. She has lived and worked in the UK and France and brings a deeply interdisciplinary perspective to her work, bridging research, lived experience, education, storytelling, advocacy, dark humor, and the occasional profanity-fueled existential spiral.

Most recently, Sarah presented research on neuroinclusive teaching and learning at the 2025 International ADHD Conference and facilitated “Hormones Gone Rogue,” an expert panel on the intersection of hormones and neurodivergence, at NeuroDiversion in Austin, Texas in March 2026. Other highlights of 2026 include a keynote address and book signing at the grand opening of The NeuroBloom Center in Bellingham, WA, a standup opening set with Julie Osborne for her comedy show on menopause complete with post-show Q&A with two invited doctors, and a peer support group on the intersection of hormones and neurodivergence co-facilitated with neuropsychologist Dr. Jen Wolkin at the International Conference on ADHD.

Sarah’s work focuses on the frequently ignored intersection of neurodivergence, hormones, burnout, identity, accessibility, and systemic inequity, particularly as they affect AFAB and gender-expansive people navigating peri/menopause and beyond. She is especially interested in the ways capitalism, patriarchy, medical misogyny, ableism, and chronic masking quietly grind neurodivergent people into dust while still expecting them to answer emails professionally.

Her current hyper-fixations include neurodivergence and AFAB people’s health, smashing patriarchy rooted in white supremacy, hyping people up, yelling about inclusive education, her dog Kubo, a good night’s sleep, and building a life centered around authenticity, autonomy, creativity, community, and mutual care rather than performative productivity and burnout culture.

Sarah lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina with her partner.

She is the author of The Neurodivergent Hormonal Survival Toolkit: A Guide for Neurocomplex People in Peri/Menopause & Their Partners (Mod Couple Press, 2026) and The Overthinking Chronicles: Cultivating Your Inner Comedian to Reframe Anxiety, Spark Self-Compassion and Trust, and Give Self-Doubt the Punchline It Deserves (Mod Couple Press, 2024).

How faculty shape the course

One framework. One founder. Clinically vetted.

Lasara designed the GAMC framework, facilitates every session, and holds the container across the full cohort. The framework rests on three pillars, gender-affirming, trauma-informed, and person-centered care, taught as one clinical practice rather than three separate competencies. Because of that continuity, participants leave with a coherent, practice-ready model rather than a collection of lectures. Guest faculty are certified GAMC graduates who apply the framework in medicine, nursing, and research. They return to deepen specific modules with what they have seen work in the exam room and the literature.

  • Lasara leads and integrates

Curriculum design, weekly facilitation, workbooks, assessments, and the implementation audit are all led by Lasara.

  • Guest faculty validate and extend

MD, DNP, and PhD graduates of GAMC bring the framework into clinical practice, nursing education, research, and international health systems, then teach from that experience.

  • Everyone certifies with Genderqueer Futures

GAMC certification is issued directly through Genderqueer Futures and is valid for two years.
