🌈 This Blog Is Also for Trans or Otherwise Queerbodied People Seeking Gender-Affirming Menopause Resources!

For those of us who’ve been on gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), undergone hysterectomy or oophorectomy, or are navigating menopause while living in trans or nonbinary bodies, our needs are often left out of mainstream medical narratives. Even well-meaning providers may be unequipped to offer inclusive, affirming menopause care — especially care that integrates lived experience, social context, trauma histories, and gender diversity.

This space is here to center what’s been missing: you.

Through this blog, we’re creating a body of knowledge that reflects the real, embodied experiences of people often erased from conversations about menopause and aging. You’ll find posts that explore:

  • Perimenopause and gender dysphoria
  • Gender euphoria
  • Trans-affirming hormone therapy and MHT/HRT
  • Fatigue, rage
  • Mourning
  • Executive dysfunction in midlife
  • Spiritual, emotional, and ancestral aspects of menopause
  • Increased symptoms/increased lack of ability to mask neurodivergence
  • Increased chronic illness in menopause

🌿 You Are Not Broken—This Is a Transition

Menopause is often reduced to a list of symptoms or dismissed as a “women’s issue.” But for many of us — especially those who are trans, nonbinary, or gender-diverse — the menopause experience is far more nuanced.

You might be experiencing:

  • Hot flashes/flushes or night sweats
  • Joint pain, muscle stiffness
  • Fatigue and/or low energy
  • Brain fog and/or memory issues
  • Mood swings, anxiety, rage, and/or depression
  • Low libido, genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), and/or sexual discomfort
  • Sleep disturbances, insomnia, and/or restless nights
  • Irregular bleeding, spotting, or sudden shifts in cycles
  • Digestive changes, weight fluctuations, or skin/hair changes
  • And more.

These are common menopause symptoms — and you are not alone in them.

You may find these resources helpful–and can read more about them throughout this blog:

  • Disability justice framing of the menopause transition
  • Queer family care structures and intergenerational support
  • Providers who apply best practices for inclusive care delivery
  • Strategies for somatic support, resilience, and joy

Each resource is built on years of lived experience, client coaching, and professional training. I am a Certified Menopause Doula and coach, educator specializing in helping providers build gender-affirming, inclusive practices, and author of the forthcoming book Genderqueer Menopause (North Atlantic Books, 2025)— and I’m here to affirm that you are not invisible, and your symptoms, your stories, and your power are real.
