Gender-Affirming Menopause, One Conversation at a Time
Conversations with providers, coaches, authors, and advocates working to make menopause care genuinely inclusive of trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive people.
About the Podcast
I’m Lasara Firefox Allen, MSW, founder and facilitator of the Gender-Affirming Menopause Care (GAMC) certification course, and this podcast exists to make gender-affirming menopause care a normal part of the conversation in menopause support spaces. Mainstream menopause media rarely accounts for trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive experiences, and this show is one small correction to that.
Episodes feature conversations with providers, coaches, authors, and advocates working in this space, covering everything from gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and clinical best practices to the more personal, embodied side of menopause as a gender-expansive person. Past guests have included Dr. Marie Benkley, Dr. Kristin Gianelis, Dr. Jesse Bossé, and Heather Corinna of Scarleteen and What Fresh Hell Is This?
Be My Guest
I’m always looking for gender-affirming menopause care providers, coaches, doctors, authors, and advocates to interview. Send a brief bio, your socials, and your favorite topics, and someone from the team will get back to you soon.
Pitch Yourself as a GuestWhere It Started: Episode 1 with Dr. Marie Benkley
Dr. Marie Benkley, ND, MSCP
Dr. Marie was our very first guest, and an excellent one. She’s an evidence-based naturopathic doctor practicing in Portland, Oregon, providing comprehensive menopause healthcare with a focus on both current and long-term health, including mental health, sexual health, heart health, and bone health.
She’s passionate about LGBTQ+ inclusive menopause care and has additional training and clinical experience in gender-affirming care, including gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT). Her practice is based at Mandala Medicine & Wellness in Portland, OR, and she also sees patients virtually throughout Oregon, Washington, and New Hampshire.
When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Marie can usually be found powerlifting, climbing, backpacking, or riding motorcycles, plus long walks with her partner and German Shepherd.
